Week Two Assignment: Due next week before class
We've gone over quite a bit this week. To review, we have reviewed some aspects of blogging, explored digital learning, and looked at our own beliefs. Your assignment this week will be to read and reflect upon using blogs in your own classroom as well as begin to create your own professional learning community by posting comments to your classmates. Then, you need to review your Technology in the News Assignment Rubric, and submit your draft to me via email before class.
1. Read & Reflect on Your Blog
Before you begin, review the tabs on this weekly topic webpage. Be sure you've completed the activities on the Class Blogs page.
1. Review your ISTE-T Standards and put a link to them on your blog.
2. What makes a good blog posting? Read and decide for yourself.
3. Next, think about what makes a good comment. Read your colleagues blogs and post a constructive comment for each.
3. Read this book chapter (Boyd, 2014) and this article Digital Immigrants/Digital Natives (Prensky 2001) to explore the different issues surrounding digital natives and critical thinking. Considering the age group you plan on working with, what technology issues do they raise for you? Select one issue and using the following template, post to your blog (you may need to find additional resources to complete all of the blanks):
In recent discussions of _____, a controversial issue has been whether______. On the one hand, some argue that _____. From this perspective, ______. On the other hand, however, others argue that _____. According to this view, ______. In sum then, the issues is whether ______ or _________.
